All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:

Cough; diarrhea; dry skin, pain, swelling, or soreness of the mouth or tongue; fingernail or toenail changes; headache; itching; loss of appetite; nausea; nosebleed; stomach pain or upset; taste changes; trouble sleeping; vomiting; tiredness or weakness; weight loss.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:
Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing or swallowing; flushing, tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue, unusual hoarseness); arm or leg pain; bloody stools; chest pain; decreased, difficult, or painful urination; dry mouth or increased thirst; fast or irregular heartbeat; fever, chills, or persistent sore throat; new or worsening cough; numbness or tingling; severe or persistent diarrhea, nausea, stomach pain, or vomiting; severe or persistent dizziness or headache; severe or persistent tiredness or weakness; shortness of breath, or other breathing problems; swelling of the arms, hands, feet, or ankles; symptoms of high blood sugar (eg, increased hunger, thirst, or urination; confusion; unusual drowsiness); unusual bruising or bleeding; yellowing of the eyes or skin.

Some people receiving an abatacept injection have had a reaction to the infusion (when the medicine is injected into the vein). Tell your caregiver right away if you feel dizzy, light-headed, itchy, or have a severe headache or trouble breathing within 1 hour after receiving the injection. Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Serious infections may occur during treatment with abatacept. Stop using abatacept and call your doctor right away if you have signs of infection such as:
fever, sweating, chills, tired feeling;

feeling short of breath;

dry cough, sore throat; or

flu symptoms, weight loss.

Call your doctor at once if you have any of these other serious side effects:
trouble breathing;

easy bruising or bleeding, pale skin, unusual weakness;

pain or burning when you urinate; or

signs of skin infection such as itching, swelling, warmth, redness, or oozing.

Less serious side effects may include:

headache, dizziness;

cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat, cough;

nausea, diarrhea, stomach pain, indigestion; or

back pain.

Like all medicines, Acomplia can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Very common side effects, that affect more than 1 per 10, have occurred in patients on Acomplia include:

* nausea and upper respiratory tract infection

Common side effects, that affect more than 1 per 100 but less than 1 per 10, that have occurred in patients on Acomplia include:

* upset stomach, vomiting, trouble with sleeping, depression, irritability, dizziness, diarrhea, anxiety, itching, excessive sweating, muscle cramps or spasm, fatigue, bruising, tendon pain and inflammation (tendonitis), memory loss, back pain (sciatica), altered sensitivity of the hands and feet, hot flush, fall, influenza, and joint sprain.

Uncommon side effects, that affects less than 1 per 100 but more than 1 per 1000, that have occurred in patients on Acomplia include:

* sleepiness (lethargy), night sweats, panic symptoms, hiccups, anger, restlessness (dysphoria), emotional disorder.

Rare side effects, that affect less than 1 per 1000, that have occurred in patients on Acomplia include:

* hallucinations
